Explain Before We Touch Anything
We walk you through what's actually wrong with your door before any repair begins, in plain language.
Naperville Garage Door Repair Guys is a family-owned company founded by Pete Voss in 2012, built on the idea that a homeowner should always know what's actually wrong before anyone touches a wrench.

Pete Voss grew up in Plainfield and started working weekends for his uncle's overhead door installation crew while he was still in high school, learning the trade the way most good technicians do: hands-on, one door at a time. After a few years installing doors on new-construction homes across the western suburbs, he moved into repair work full-time, where the problems got more varied and a lot more interesting.
He started Naperville Garage Door Repair Guys in 2012, running the first two years solo out of a single truck before the workload justified bringing on a second technician. That slow, deliberate growth set the tone for how the company still operates today — take on what you can do right, not just what you can book.
Pete got serious about doing spring and cable work strictly by the book after watching a homeowner attempt a DIY torsion spring adjustment that ended with a trip to the emergency room. Torsion springs store enough tension to cause real injury when they're mishandled, and that call stuck with him.
He still keeps the mangled winding bar from that job in his toolbox. It's not there for show — it's a reminder of why every technician on this team follows a set procedure on spring and cable jobs instead of shortcutting it, no matter how many times they've done the work.
Since 2012, Naperville Garage Door Repair Guys has grown from Pete's single truck into a small team of background-checked, insured technicians, but the company is still small enough that Pete stays involved in day-to-day work and training. We're based in Plainfield and run daily routes into Naperville, Bolingbrook, Woodridge, Lisle, Aurora, Wheaton, Warrenville, Oswego, and Downers Grove.
Fourteen years in one service area teaches you things a brochure can't — which neighborhoods have older torsion spring systems that are due for attention, how a rough Chicago-area winter affects a garage door differently than a mild one, and which repairs are worth doing right versus which doors have simply reached the end of their service life.
Pete lives in Plainfield with his family and volunteers on weekends coaching his kids' robotics team. It's a small thing, but it's part of why the company has stayed local in how it operates — Pete and his team live in these communities, not just service them.
Three things guide every job this company takes on: explain what's actually wrong before touching anything, charge honestly, and never leave a job half-finished. Those aren't marketing lines — they're the standard Pete set in year one, running solo out of that first truck, and the standard every technician who's joined since has been trained to follow.
